I don't normally write in my Journal about stuff other people write in their blogs, but in this case I found it important enough to spread the word around.
It's nice too see that Prince Of Persia is doing by default what I prefer to do with all games. And on Twenty Sided is a video review on punishment in games.
I Enable god mode (you can't die) and unlimited ammo.
Why do I do this?
Simple! I prefer story based games, in most of these YOU are the hero.
And against all odds (wow how unusual of a plot) you survive and save the day.
A few games you may be required to die, but this is usually scripted anyway.
So if I'm "supposed" to survive, why let me die? Dying basically breaks the story. (still being alive).
And if one runs out of ammo, how can one fight back at the enemy, hence you'll die. (well with godmode you wont, but godmode with no way to fight back also break the story).
With Prince Of Persia there is no "ammo", but I can see that Elika helping the Prince when in trouble and saving you if you are about to die, eliminates the need for a God mode, and it fits in with the story.
And as pointed out in the video, you do not have to travel half a town to retry. (GTA games come to mind, GTA IV included) Something that has annoyed me immensely as well.
